天にも昇る気持ち
“on cloud nine”は”seventh heaven”と同様に、とても幸せな気持ちを表すときに使われます。いくつか起源がありますが、アメリカの気象局が”cloud nine”を積乱雲として指すようになり、その雲の上はまさに天国だということから、この表現が使われるようにあったという説があります。

Jill: Well, it’s not confirmed yet, but I think one of our major prospects will sign the big deal we have been negotiating. I heard our proposal will be presented to their CEO tonight.
（そうね、まだ公式ではないんだけど、ずっと交渉してた見込みが大口の契約をしてくれるようなの。今晩CEOのところまで提案が届くって聞いたんだ。）
Jack: That is really great news! So this is the last step in the process and hopefully they could sign the paperwork tomorrow, right?
（それはすごいニュースだね！それじゃ最終段階で、願わくば明日には署名してくれるってことだよね？）
Jill: Seems so. I will be on cloud nine if we land this business. It would be the largest client we’ve had in company history!
（そうみたい。この契約が決まれば、天にも昇る気持ちだわ。この会社の歴史の中で一番大口の顧客になるんだから！）
Jack: Fantastic! Your team will surely get a lot of recognition for all the hard work – and hopefully a nice bonus as well!
（すばらしいね！きっと君のチームも努力が評価されるね。ボーナスもあるといいね！）
Jill: Yeah, a little extra money would be nice. I could really use a vacation to Hawaii after working overtime on this deal all month…
（そうね、ちょっとあるといいな。今月そのためにずっと残業してたから、ハワイへの休暇に充てられたらいいんだけど。）
Jack: Oh, that sounds great. Well, you better take that trip soon, as it looks like you’ll be even busier when this new business starts!
（それはいいね。すぐその旅行にいったほうがいいよ。この契約が始まったら、もっと忙しくなるんだから！）
