Senior Legal Counsel - Major Communications Tech

This exciting role covers legal and regulatory matters for the business of this major multinational corporation for Japan and some APAC markets. Reporting to the head of legal & compliance, the main responsibilities are as follows:

• Negotiate and draft legal documentation with business teams and outside parties advising on legal risk and compliance with internal processes and external regulations
• Provide expert legal advice on legal matters to do with regulatory issues, commercial activity, litigation and corporate governance 
• Work with colleagues in Japan, APAC and global legal functions to provide up-to-date legal advice and guidance on strategic commercial activity
• Give corporate secretarial support, ensure effective maintenance of a strong corporate governance profile and take a prominent role in company-wide ethics and compliance training

Successful candidates will have some, if not all, of the following:

• 8+ years of relevant experience as a corporate lawyer with major companies or law firms
• Qualified to practice as a lawyer in Japan or other common law jurisdictions
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to a wide audience
• Native-level Japanese with fluent English language skills
• Proven ability to provide legal solutions to complicated and ambiguous commercial situations 
• Knowledge of legal matters related to the technology industry and relevant contracts is advantageous but not a must
