Network Operations Engineer / ネットワーク運用エンジニア

The Scientific Computing and Data Analysis (SCDA) section, under the Core Facilities (CF), promotes the effective use of High-Performance Computing and centrally managed resources in OIST research environment. The SCDA manages OIST scientific computing resources and services, including data storage and campus network to support computationally intensive research studies, ranging from bioinformatics to computational physics.
This network operations engineer position supports research activities through a network infrastructure that incorporates the latest technologies. This position will also be involved in the planning, deployment, operation and maintenance of network systems. Under the direction of the SCDA Leader, the member will support usage of OIST network resources, which involves day to day management network infrastructure and services, as well as general systems administration and documentation and performing routine network modification tasks based on various requests from users.

Responsibilities:

1. Network monitoring, maintenance, incident management, problem resolution, reporting and Documentation
2. System administration, patch management, capacity planning, ensuring reliable and secure network access
3. Scheduling and implementing network maintenance, installing and configuring hardware as required
4. Collaborate with network equipment vendors to resolve hardware issues and obtain technical support.
5. Responding to relevant support tickets as required, consulting with non-technical staff on projects involving network access
6. Explores emerging technologies and technical developments to address expanding analytical requirements
7. Contribute to a team culture of trust and transparency by sharing information openly, and deliberately
8. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Section Leader

コアファシリティの配下にある科学計算及びデータ解析セクション（以下：SCDA）は、OISTの研究環境におけるHPC（ハイ・パフォーマンス・コンピューティング）と一元管理されたリソースの効果的な利用を推進しています。サポートの対象となる研究分野は、生物情報学から計算物理学まで多岐にわたり、データストレージとキャンパスネットワークを含め、SCDAはOIST内の研究に必要な計算資源とサービスを統合的に管理し、研究で行う負荷の高い様々な計算（大規模計算、大量計算など）をサポートしています。
当ポジションは、最新技術を取り入れたネットワークインフラを通じて研究活動をサポートします。また、ネットワークシステムの計画、導入、運用、保守にも携わります。SCDAリーダーの指示の下、OISTのネットワークリソースの利用をサポートし、日々のネットワークインフラやサービスの管理、一般的なシステム管理や文書作成、そしてユーザーからの様々なリクエストに基づく定型的なネットワーク変更作業を行います。

職務内容:

1. ネットワーク監視、メンテナンス、インシデント管理、問題解決、レポーティング、ドキュメンテーション
2. システム管理、パッチ管理、キャパシティプランニング、信頼できる安全なネットワークアクセスの確保
3. ネットワークメンテナンスのスケジューリングと実施、必要に応じてハードウェアのインストールと設定
4. ネットワーク機器ベンダーと協力し、ハードウェアの問題を解決し、技術サポートを受ける
5. 必要に応じて関連するサポートチケットに対応し、ネットワークアクセスを含むプロジェクトについて技術者以外のスタッフと相談する
6. 拡大する分析要件に対応するため、新たな技術や技術開発を探求する
7. 意識的にかつオープンに情報を共有することで、信頼性と透明性のあるチーム文化へ貢献する
8. その他、セクションリーダーから指示または要請された関連業務の遂行

(Required)

1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
2. 3+ years of deployment, operation and administration of network infrastructure
3. Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, MPLS, VLAN, etc.)
4. Expertise in network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
5. Proficiency in network monitoring tools and ticketing systems
6. Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
7. Good organization and communication skills, in both Japanese and English
8. Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members
9. Ability to identify and resolve problems
10. Ability to learn and apply new concepts, methods and practices

1. ITIL, IT Passort
2. Cisco Certified Network Associate Certificate
3. Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals
4. Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination
