Job Description

【About the Company】

A start-up company that develops and provides IT services for lawyers.
Founded in September 2017 by CEO, Mr. Yagita and CTO, Mr. Kido, who are peers at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Information Science and Technology.
The legal research tool "Legalscape" was launched in June 2021. It has already been adopted by major law firms and major corporate legal departments.

Job Description

【Business Overview/Recruitment Background】
The company is a tech company that offers a product called "Legalscape," which is, frankly speaking, the legal version of Google. Legalscape was created to digitize all legal information and convert it from PDFs and other formats into a machine-readable form, making it easy for anyone handling Japanese law to understand and see at a glance. Legalscape has already been implemented by a major law firm and the legal department of a well-known major corporation, and the company is planning a strategy for further growth.
In addition to further updating and increasing the number of users of "Legalscape," which is a major pillar of our business, new projects are underway that focus on the legal domain, which will become the second and third pillars of the business.

The company is looking for engineers who want to work together to create a legal information infrastructure that supports the rule of law by developing and improving the services that form the basis of the business and by organizing legal information.

*The product team responsible for development includes the CTO (formerly Microsoft Development), one product owner (formerly GMO Internet), five engineers (formerly CyberAgent, SmartNews, etc.), and seven other members.

【Mission】
You will be responsible for the development and operation of the product itself and the internal systems that support the operation of the Legalscape service.
・Continuously innovate users' legal research experience by developing new functions that improve the usability of the product itself and by improving existing functions.
・Enable legal research of newly created legal information more quickly and with fewer errors by developing and improving the internal system for structuring legal information, including books.
In addition, you may be assigned to perform the above duties for various projects related to "Legalscape" as needed. (e.g., national project "Open Data System for Civil Judgments" demonstration experiment, etc.)

【Specifically】
The company's software engineers are responsible for the following tasks, specifically,

・Responsible for the development of new functions, starting from specification review and coordination, through technology selection, design, implementation, testing, code review, deployment, and operation.
・Analyze functional or performance problems that hinder the usability of the product, and propose and implement improvement measures.
・Maintain documentation of various system operations and provide technical response to incidents (first aid, drastic measures, prevention of recurrence).
・Repay technical debt that hinders development and operational efficiency, and validate improvements and new technologies for a better development experience.

You will be expected to be technically responsible for both web front-end and back-end systems (including RDBMS and search systems). In some cases, this may also include infrastructure design and development.

Since it is a young team, the area of responsibility is fluid, and you will be given the utmost consideration for your wishes.
Below is an example of the development environment and tools currently in use.

Cloud: Google Cloud Platform, Firebase
Frontend: Nuxt.js (Vue.js), React, TypeScript, Jest, Storybook, SCSS
Backend: Node.js, OpenAPI, TypeScript, Jest, TypeORM, Flyway, App Engine
Datastore: Elasticsearch, Cloud SQL (MySQL), BigQuery
