Responsibilities:

1. Handle the filing and prosecution of patent applications by collaborating with patent attorneys in and outside of Japan; interface with relevant OIST researchers and external counsel to provide direction or instructions.
2. Lead internal meetings and manage relationships with OIST researchers; provide direction and support for claims drafting, filing, and prosecution of applications.
3. Work closely with IP docketing staff and third-party IP counsel to manage and coordinate the workflow.
4. Participate in and assist with the management, growth and maintenance of OIST’s global intellectual property (IP) portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
5. Carry out analyses of patents and patent portfolios from legal, technical and business perspectives.
6. Manage contracts related to IP, such as material transfer agreements (MTAs), patent assignments and joint filing agreements.
7. Review and authorize third party invoices, coordinating with the Section Manager to ensure adherence to the budget.
8. Address IP-related inquiries from other sections at OIST; establish and implement internal IP policies.
9. Collaborate with other professionals in OIST Innovation, including licensing and business development specialists, to identify and establish relationships with potential industry collaborators, licensees, or investors.

職務内容：

1. 国内外の弁理士・弁護士と連携し、特許出願・中間処理業務を担当する。OISTの関連研究者や外部の弁理士と連絡を取り、方針や指示を与える。
2. 内部会議を主導し、OIST研究者との関係を構築・管理し、クレーム作成、出願、中間処理に関する指示やサポートを行う。
3. 知財ドケッティングスタッフ及び外部弁理士と緊密に連携し、ワークフローを管理・調整する。
4. 特許、商標、著作権、営業秘密を含むOISTのグローバルな知財ポートフォリオの構築、管理、維持に参加し、支援する。
5. 特許や特許ポートフォリオを法的、技術的及びビジネス的観点から分析する。
6. 物質移動合意書(MTA)、特許譲渡契約、共同出願契約など、知的財産に関連する契約を担当する。
7. セクションマネージャーと調整し、予算遵守を確認しながら、請求書をレビューし、承認する。
8. OISTの他のセクションからの知的財産に関する問い合わせに対応する。知的財産に関する内部方針を策定し、実施する。
9. ライセンシングや事業開発のスペシャリストなどのOIST Innovationの他のスペシャリストと協力し、産業界の協業パートナー、ライセンシー、投資家等を発掘し、関係を構築する。

(Required)

1. Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering fields
2. Experience in developing IP strategies and handling patent cases in Japan and other countries
3. Business-level proficiency in English, including a high level of reading comprehension and writing skills for legal and technical documentation
4. Strong communication skills to develop relationships with OIST researchers and IP law firms in Japan and abroad
5. Ability to draft and review patent claims and specifications aligned with technology portfolios and business objectives
6. Excellent time management, teamwork, and organizational skills

(Preferred)

1. Business-level proficiency in Japanese
2. Master’s or Ph.D. in science or engineering fields
3. Legal knowledge and experience handling contracts
4. Familiarity with patent practices in major countries
5. 5+ years of experience in a corporate IP department or IP law firm, or qualification as a patent attorney
