Principal duties of the position
At our large-scale, high-density data centres, the Facility Engineer/Data Centre Engineer function will be in charge of deploying, operating, and maintaining facilities (mechanical and electrical systems, control and firefighting systems, etc.) as well as managing related projects.
On a daily basis, you will engage in:
* Building system inspections, monitoring, and problem-solving for facilities
* Increasing operational effectiveness and energy savings * Coordinating with partners and vendors to plan and carry out routine maintenance and repairs * Verifying electrical cooling capacity prior to new capacity installation * Attaching power whips during equipment installation * Examining plans for building new data centres and expanding existing data centres

- Two to four years of applicable experience managing and maintaining mission-critical machinery (e.g., factories, substations, hospitals, etc. that are operational around-the-clock).
- Knowledge or a foundational grasp of maintenance, incident, change, and vendor management; also, the ability to follow policies, processes, and procedures at work.
- JLPT N2 level verbal and reading/writing proficiency in Japanese
Proficiency in both spoken and written English, at least as high as the TOEIC 550 or high enough to manage everyday English-language requests
PREFERRED SKILLS
- qualifications for operating data centres (Type II Chief Electrical Engineer, Qualified Energy Manager, Type 4 Hazardous Materials Engineer, Refrigeration Machinery Manager, 2nd Class Qualified Certified Electrician), or qualifications related to data centres (CDCP, CDCS, CDCE, ASHRAE, etc.)
A certification in project management (PMP, Prince2, ITILv2, BICSI).
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including fuel systems for diesel and gas turbine generators, surge control circuits, active harmonic filters, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems, SCADA systems, and supply systems of power substations, transformers, switchgears, VFI-class UPS, DRUPS, PDU, ATS, STS, and SLA or VRLA batteries and related systems.
- Excellent comprehension of mechanical systems, including water systems, pumps, valves, duct systems, fans, dampers, fire detection and extinguishing systems, drainage systems, AHU, chillers, cooling towers, storage tanks, and heat exchangers.
