1884年（明治17年）、岡永は東京・日本橋馬喰町で醤油・味噌・酒の小売業として創業しました。以来、一世紀にわたり、売る側の視点ばかりではなく社会のニーズに目を向けた事業展開を心がけてまいりました。戦後の高度成長期、「良質の日本酒」が市場から消え去ろうとしていた時代、岡永は「ほんものの美味しい日本酒を愛飲家に届けよう」と考え、1975年（昭和50年）に『日本名門酒会』を発足させました。
