On January 17, 2022, Exotec, a French start-up company that develops and manufactures robot picking systems for warehouses (supported by JETRO's investment in Japan), announced that it had successfully raised $335 million in funding, thus becoming the 25th unicorn company in France and the first French unicorn company in the manufacturing industry.
Founded in 2015 and growing fast, it has a total of 300 employees worldwide, and already a team of 50 in Japan. Exotec is developing its business in nine countries around the world with revenues expected to exceed 100 million dollars in 2021.
Exotec’s signature solution, The Skypod system, utilizes robots that can reach a height of 12 meters to enable high-density inventory storage and retrieval.
Thanks to its fleets of robots, capable of moving in three dimensions, Exotec has revolutionized the way its customers organize their warehouses and logistics flows. Exotec offers a clear alternative to traditional warehouse automation solutions: elegant collaboration between human and robot workers that delivers sustainable warehouse productivity.
What differentiates the Skypod system from its competitors? Exotec offers an agile solution capable of following the growth of its customers by simply adding robots and racks and can be deployed in a matter of months, not years, with little to no disruptions of operations.
The market size of robot utilization solutions in the logistics industry is growing dramatically with an average annual growth rate of 45%. Similarly, demand for automated solutions continues to grow at 10-15% year-on-year.
After the first successful deployment of its system in 2017, Exotec now supports 25+ industry-leading brands spanning e-commerce, grocery, retail, manufacturing, and 3PL sectors and employs over 300 people globally.
In January 2020, the company established EXOTEC NIHON CO., LTD. in Tokyo with the aim of cultivating new customers and responding to existing customers. In Q1 2020, a warehouse was set up in Kyoto Prefecture and its full-scale activities in Japan are under way. In Q4 2021, its office relocated to Minato Ward.
In November 2019, EXOTEC NIHON CO., LTD. and FAST RETAILING CO., LTD. announced the conclusion of a strategic global partnership to realize supply chain reforms. The deployment of close to 1,000 Skypod robots is on-going, and in Q3 2021, the company’s robots began operation for the first time in Japan, preparing orders for store replenishment at UNIQLO's Kobe warehouse.
Our teams are growing quickly to meet the growing demands in logistics and robotics. We are looking for passionate collaborators who are up to the challenge, all while working in a stimulating and ambitious workspace.
