At Covestro, our purpose is "To make the world a brighter place". We want to help to realize a brighter future by providing a wide range of innovative products and solutions that contribute to overcoming global challenges such as climate change. Covestro has set out a new vision "We will be fully circular" to materialize this purpose. We want to accelerate the transition to a circular economy and are committed to attain our goal of becoming climate neutral by 2035 (scope 1 and 2), which is a very ambitious target compared to other chemical companies.
Apart from collaborating with our global network, we have built a strong foundation in Japan in close cooperation with our local business partners. Our four legal entities Covestro Japan Ltd., Sumika Covestro Urethane Co., Ltd., DIC Covestro Polymer Ltd. and Japan Fine Coatings Co., Ltd. provide distinctive- products and services for polycarbonates, polyurethanes, coating and adhesives, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and UV curable coatings respectively.
As for our three production sites in Niihama (Ehime Prefecture), Sakai (Osaka Prefecture), and Tsukuba (Ibaraki Prefecture) we focus on stable operation with the utmost attention to safety.
Our predecessor company "Bayer" invented polyurethanes and polycarbonates in 1937 and 1953 respectively. Many years have passed since then, but innovation is still deeply embedded in our DNA. Here in Japan, we are strongly positioned with our two R&D centers in Amagasaki and Kawasaki where we develop and provide a wide range of solutions for high-quality polymer materials, proprietary processing processes and UV curable coating systems serving a variety of industries such as mobility, construction, electrical- and electronics and telecommunications.
Our employees who are embodying Covestro’s corporate values of always striving to be curious, courageous, and colorful, are our greatest asset. We want to contribute to solving the challenges facing Japanese society and continue to provide innovative and sustainable solutions.
